Adeleke Crowned European Champion


Rhasidat Adeleke was crowned European U18 Champion after she stormed to victory in the final of the 200m in Gyor, Hungary last weekend. After qualifying from her heat in 2nd place on Friday with a time of 23.90 the 15 year old then went on to win her semi-final on Saturday morning with a new personal best time of 23.77 and later on Saturday evening she reacted quicker than ever before from the blocks to establish a lead which she maintained all the way to finish line to claim victory and the U18 title with another new personal best time of 23.52.

Rhasidat will bypass the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore next weekend where she was expected to contest the U17 100m and 200m as she will instead be travelling as a member of the Irish 4X100m relay squad who will be contesting the U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland this weekend.

Elsewhere, the Tallaght Men’s team qualified for the National Track & Field League Final which will be held in Tullamore in August after some very good performances at Santry Stadium on Sunday last secured the points needed to add to the points won in Belfast a few weeks ago to secure their place.

Tomas Fitzpatrick again scored top points with a win in the 5000m (15.20.06) with Joseph Ojewumi doing likewise in the 100m (10.72), Timmy Badu in the 200m (22.32), Christopher Duffy in the 400m (49.70) and Luke Coleman finished 2nd in both the 3000m steeple chase (10.58.92) and walk (19.48.76) as Jide Adiguns who threw 41.55m (new club record) in the javelin and Patrick Curran in the Discus with a throw of 27.54. Patrick Curran also finished 3rd in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 2.80m and Joseph Lyons was another to take 3rd
