Tallaght Athletes Win League Awards


After the final contest of the series of the Dublin Juvenile Cross Country league series were completed in Tymon Park last Sunday week a number of Tallaght juvenile athletes emerged in the top 6 overall award winners.

Gareth Hayes topped the U10 table to take the title after he notched up three wins in Skerries, the Phoenix Park and more recently in Tymon Park over a variety of distances and Jack Kelly and Christopher Duffy did likewise after they produced three fine wins in their respective U13 and U18 divisions.

Khalad Kourrini emerged 4th at U11 degree whilst Abbie Brennan, Tara Swift and Sophia Kourrini all finished 6th overall in their U14, U15 and divisions.

On the same day in Tymon a large number of senior athletes contested the Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championships where Sarah Doyle was the first to cross the line in the Women’s 5000m contest and she was followed home by Gwen Baker, Anita Carruth, Clare O’ Brien, Deirdre Harris, Sarah Jane Kinsella, Evelyn Barrett, Susanna O’ Callaghan, Liz Pepper, Michelle Metcalf and Ciara Forrester who all ran well and enjoyed the outing.

In the Mens 8000m contest Luke Coleman was the first across the line for the club in 11th and he was followed next by Eoghan Keaney, Kevin English, David Callaghan, Karl Gill, David O’ Callaghan, Stephen Kavanagh, Sean Mc Cabe, Sean Mc Donnell, Paul Murphy and Joe Pepper.

A week earlier at the National Even Age Cross Country Championships in Abbotstown Jared Murray finished 24th overall in the large field of 156 finishers in the U14 3000m race and his fine effort earned him an Inter County gold medal after Dublin lifted the Inter County title following a good combined effort by their first 6 finishers. Jack Kelly ran well in the same contest and in the U12 boys 2000m contest Lee Brennan was the first to finish for the club and was followed home by Khalad Kourrini, Leon Paterson and Thomas Keating who all ran well on the day.

More recently, at the National Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championships in Waterford yesterday, Lee Brennan ran a superb race to finish 20th of the 148 finishers and was the second to finish for the Dublin team in the U11 1500m with Gareth Hayes following him home ahead of Khalad Kourrini while Abbi Brennan did well in her 3500m contest at U15 degree.
