Tallaght Juvenile Qualify for Nationals


After producing some good performances at the Dublin Cross Country Championships which were held on the National cross country course in Abbotstown on Sunday last a number of Tallaght juvenile athletes booked their places for the National Even Age Cross Country Championships which will be held on the same course on Sunday 26th November.

Gareth Hayes the 2016 U9 champion was in great form in the U10 1000m where he led from start to finish, and despite being strongly challenged by Zak Murphy (M.S.B.) and David Coakley (Lucan Harriers) throughout the race he finished strongly on the incline to the finish to take the title. Abdullahi Adeleke and Marcus Mitchell both ran well in the same contest whilst Leah Thomas was the first across the line in the girls U10 race followed by Brooke Paterson and Amy Casey.

Lee Brennan , in only his second ever cross country outing stepped up in age to contest the U12 2000m race where he ran a superbly to finish 8th and secure his place on the Dublin team for the National Championships. Lee combined with Leon Patterson (18th) and both  Khalad Kourrini (21st ) and Thomas Keating (28th ) who also stepped up in age to win the bronze team medals and the quartet will be joined by Cian O’ Connor in inter club category at Nationals. Eva Casey led home Ellie Carruth, Hanna Kavanagh Barry and Jessica Gillen in the U12 girls 2000m contest where they all ran well.

Jared Murray was another to qualify for Nationals after he produced an excellent performance in the U14 boys 3000m contest where he showed true grit and determination to win the silver medal, and he will be joined on the Dublin team by Jack Kelly who ran on strongly to finish a very good 7th. In the same contest James Perlin finished well in what was his first ever cross country outing whilst Abbie Brennan did well to finish 28th of the 50 runners in the U14 3000m and in the U16 4000m contests Tara Swift, Aksel Brachocki and Cadan Clifford all did well.

The Uneven Age Championships are next on the agenda for the young Tallaght athletes where they will stake their claim for National qualification in Santry Demesne on Sunday 5th November.

In the meantime a large number of Tallaght Senior and Masters will contest the Dublin Marathon which incorporates both the Dublin and National Marathon Championships on this Sunday.
